2. πρυτανεῖα, τά, sum deposited by each party to a lawsuit before the suit began, π. τιθέναι, κατατιθέναι, IG12.22.33, 28.5, cf. Ar.Nu.1136, 1180, V.659, etc.; “ἄνευ πρυτανείωνIG12.3.29; π. τιθέτω διώκων τοῦ αὑτοῦ μέρους Lex ap. D.43.71; ἵν᾽ αἱ θέσεις γίγνοιντο τῇ νουμηνίᾳ (sc. τῶν πρυτανείων) Ar.Nu. 1191; δέχεσθαι τὰ π. to receive this deposit, i.e. to allow the action to be brought, ib.1197; π. ἐκτίνειν to pay this deposit, D.47.64.
