3. freq. used by Poets to denote anything dear or precious,ταῦτα μὲν . . κρείσσονα χρυσοῦ . . φωνεῖςA.Ch.372 (anap.); “ χ. ἧσσον κτῆμα τοῦ κλάειν ἂν ἦνS.Fr.557; “ὡς χρυσὸς αὐτῷ τἀμὰ . . κακὰ δόξει ποτ᾽ εἶναιE.Tr.432, cf.
