c. χ. ἀγών a contest for a shield of brass, Pi.N.10.22.
2. metaph., brazen, i. e. hard, stout, strong,χάλκεος ἌρηςIl.5.704, etc. (unless wearing brazen armour, cf. χάλκεοι ἄνδρες Orac. ap. Hdt.2.152); Χαλκοῦς, nickname of Aristomedes, Din. ap.
