ἐπίδι^κ-ος , ον,
A.disputed at law, liable to be made the subject of a process at law (cf. ἀνεπίδικος), “ἐ. τινί ἐστιν ὁ κλῆρος” Is.3.3,43, cf. 11.10; “μὴ ἐ. εἶναι τὸν κλῆρον” D.44.46. Adv. “-κως, ἀνυέσθω” Petos. ap. Vett.Val.128.27.
II.. Subst. ἐπίδικος, ἡ, an heiress for whose hand her next of kin are claimants at law, Is.3.64; ἐ. τινα καταλιπεῖν ib.73.
2.. generally, subject to a judicial decision, δίδωμι ἐμαυτὸν ἐπίδικον τοῖς δημόταις I commit myself to the people's decision, D.H.7.58 codd.; disputed, of territory, “πρός τινας” Plu.Cleom.4; ἐ. νίκη a disputed victory, Id.Fab.3.
