ἀκοή , , Ep. ἀκουή: (ἀκοϝ, cf. ἀκούω):—
A.hearing, sound heard, “ἕκαθεν δέ τε γίγνετ᾽ .Il.16.634.
II. sense of hearing, Hdt.1.38, etc.; joined with ὄψις, Pl.Phd.65b, etc.; “οἷς ὦτα μέν ἐστιν, ἀκοαὶδὲ οὐκ ἔνεισινPh.1.474.
3. ear, “ὀππάτεσσι δ᾽ οὖδεν ὄρημ᾽, ἐπιρρόμβεισι δ᾽ ἄκουαιSapph.2.12, cf. A.R.4.17; “ἀπεσθίει μου τὴν .Hermipp.52, cf. Pherecr.199; δυσὶν ἀκοαῖς κρίνειν with two ears, Arist.Pol.1287b27, cf. Pr.960a30, Call.Fr.106.5.
III. hearing, listening to, “ἀκοῆς ἄξιοςPl.Tht.142d; εἰς ἀκοὴν φωνῆς within hearing of . ., D.S.19.41.
