A.the light of the sun or moon, Od.4.45, etc.:—of the radiance of Olympus, λευκὴ αἴ. 6.45, cf. S.Ant.610 (lyr.); εἰς αἴγλαν μολεῖν to come to daylight, i.e. to be born, Pi.N.1.35; φοιβὰν ὑπαὶ χειμῶνος αἴ., of sunshine on edge of storm-cloud, B.12.140; of dream light in sleep, S.Ph.831 (lyr.).
2. generally, radiance, gleam, ἀπὸ χαλκοῦ αἴ. Il.2.458; τὰς πυρφόρους Ἀρτέμιδος αἴ. the gleam of her torches, S.OT207 (lyr.); μέλαιναν αἴ., of dying embers, E.Tr.549 (lyr.).
3. metaph., splendour, glory, αἴ. ποδῶν, of swiftness, Pi.O.13.36; διόσδοτος αἴ. Id.P.8.96.
II. of shining objects, as a bracelet, S.Fr.594; fetter, Epich.20.
