ἀρί-ζηλος [α^], ον (Dor.
A.-ζηλοςIG9(1).270), also η, ον, v. infr.:—Ep. for ἀρίδηλος -ζηλος from δyηλος, cf. δῆλος from δεyαλος and δέατο), conspicuous, of lightning, “ἀρίζηλοι δέ οἱ αὐγαίIl.13.244, cf. Pi.O.2.61, S.lchn.72; of sound, “ὡς δ᾽ ὅτ᾽ ἀριζήλη φωνήIl.18.219; of persons whom all admire, ὥς τε θεώ περ ἀμφὶς ἀριζήλω ib.519, AP4.1.3 (Mel.), etc.; “ῥεῖα δ᾽ ἀρίζηλον μινύθει καὶ ἄδηλον ἀέξειHes.Op.6.
