A.burnt, red-hot, “καυτὸν μοχλόνE.Cyc.633 (Scal.for καὶ τὸν): καυστόν, τό, burnt-offering for the dead, Phot.; so “καυτόνHsch.; whole burnt-offering, “ἄγοντι τὸμ βοῦν καὶ τὸγ καυτόνSIG1025.31 (Cos); ἀρὴν καυτός ib.1027.9 (ibid.).
2. capable of being burnt, opp.ἄκαυστος, Arist.Mete.387a17, al.; cf. καυστικός: Comp. -ότερος Thphr.Ign.72.
