κατασπουδ-άζομαι (with aor.and pf. Pass.),
A.to be earnest, serious, Hdt.2.173; οὐδαμῶς κατεσπουδασμένος ἀνήρ ib. 174; “κατεσπουδασμέναι δεήσεις” D.H.11.61, cf. 4.67:—later in Act., “ἐὰν αὐτός τις . . φαίνηται -εσπουδακώς” Phld.Mort.31: also c. dat., take a serious interest in, “βλαβεροῖς κ.” Id.Mus.p.56 K.: abs., Apollon.Lex. s.v. ἐπείγετον.
