ὑποφθάνω [α^], aor.
A.“ὑπέφθην” A.R.4.307; part. “ὑποφθάς” Il.7.144; also in Med. aor. part. (v. infr.): later aor. 1 ὑπέφθα^σα (v. infr.):—haste before, be or get beforehand, ὑποφθὰς δουρὶ μέσον περόνησεν getting beforehand he pierced him through the middle, Il.l.c.; “ἔγραψεν ὑποφθάσας” Plu.Pomp.21:—also in part. Med., “κτεῖνεν ὑποφθάμενος” Od.4.547.
II. c. acc., to be beforehand with one, A.R. l.c., Plu. Aem.26, etc.:—Med., “τὸν ὑποφθαμένη φάτο μῦθον” Od.15.171, cf. AP 9.227 (Bianor).
